Artist Spotlight - Mary Liz (SC)

Mary Liz is a multi-talented singer out of South Carolina that will soon be making waves. Pay attention! Don't sleep now and try to sweat her when she blows up! To get a preview of whats to come, her mixtape, "The Princess is Here" hosted by DJ Frosty will be available tomorrow (Oct. 28). Follow her on Twitter (@itsmaryliz) for details!

Mary Elizabeth McDonald, more commonly known as MaryLiz, is a 19-year-old go getter with a passion for music and drive that is out of this world. She was fittingly named The Princess after being introduced numerous times as the Princess of R&B at her concerts and throughout her university by her supporters and dedicated fans. So here she stands as MaryLiz, The Princess. Born and raised in Irmo, SC on April 26, 1990, she began singing at the age of 3. Always a creative child, she was writing songs and performing at 7, picked up the Viola at 9, and became a self-taught pianist at age 13.

As if this is not enough to prove her natural, God-given talent, she started recording professionally at 14 and has been doing it ever since. Always determined to chase after her dreams, MaryLiz fully dedicated herself to pursuing a musical career in her freshman year of highschool, but bound by high-school commitments, she was never able to put her plan into motion until graduating Spring 2008.

November 29, 2007 marked the day that will forever be tattooed on the young musician’s heart; this is the day her father, and best friend none-the-less, was killed by lung cancer. In his last words to MaryLiz in his self-written obituary he encouraged her to get to the top. This was the extra push for her to take a blind leap of faith into the music industry and trust the musicianship she was blessed with to find her ultimate success.

Despite the nay-sayers and negative people that have devoted themselves to bringing her down, MaryLiz has set full sprint toward her dreams, going against the grain and all odds to make a name for herself and for all her supporters that believe in her.

Presently, MaryLiz is enrolled at the University of South Carolina taking up Music and Business Marketing while continuing to pursue her music career. At age 19 she has solidified herself as MaryLiz The Princess: Singer/Songwriter/Pianist/Violist/Producer – And this is only the beginning.

mary liz is, and always has been herself and tried to be nothing other than that...& considering i've known her for over 13 years i would think that speaks a little louder than someone who knows her only as an internet personality & has the grammar of an uneducated 5 year old to top it off.

go mary liz, i'm so proud of you girl, you show 'em!!! :)

She performed at our high school a lot, and I was never really a huge fan of her. It seems like she is trying too hard to push this new image of herself. She wasn't like this in high school. She wore black clothes and listened to Slipknot, and now all of the sudden she is trying to gain this fame by promoting this fake image? Stop trying so hard and be yourself. And also, change the chorus and repititive phrases in your songs. People will turn the radio off if they here the same two or three words over and over again. Just because a few artists have done it before, doesn't mean it is the right way to go.

appreciate the comments but i do have to say to the comment above... i really dislike slipknot. i couldnt name one song if you asked me to. and i never wore black all the time lol. i was a varsity cheerleader and in the orchestra... and r&b/rap has always been my prefered music taste. glad you think you knew me in highschool. appreciate the advice though.

Slipknot.....LOL?!?!!! Mary Liz would get cranky if we played Nickelback or Dave for too long...even that was too much rock for her! Hahahaha...that really is freaking hilarious!!!

Maryliz-- read your blog post saying "Also really thought it was funny that all the comments on this blog were posted with a name, people owned up to what they said EXCEPT for the negative comments. It's like maybe they are embarrassed about what they have to say.. or don't want to hear about it... ?? If you're going to post something that's not true you shouldnt be cowardly and not own up to what youre saying. But that's cool."

Look at all of the people that are actually fans that post 'anonymous.' If I were one of those people who praised you, I'd take it right back because you obviously aren't paying much attention to these loyal fans, and they'll remember it the day you need them. Real smooth, princess.

She needs to be a little more open-minded about things/people/lifestyles or she will keep selling to the same narrow demographic.
And I agree. The repetivite lyrics are a little excessive.

Sorry but shes horrible. I will say that she can sing, but shes horrible because shes singing a genre of music that she can't keep up with.

I listened to the mixtape, again she can sing but damn ma stay on beat! Thats why I say she cant keep up. RnB is soulful and rhythmic and she doesn't have it. You can't teach someone to have rhythm, they either have it or they dont.
